Boki ("we", "our", "the service") helps people learn from books through AI-generated lectures. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
1. Information we collect
- Account information. When you sign up with a username/password or with Google, we store your account identifier, email (if provided by Google), display name, and an encrypted password (or a Google account ID for OAuth sign-ups).
- Usage data. We log the books you open, your playback position, language preferences, and AI-assistant conversations so we can sync your progress across devices and improve the service.
- Uploaded content. If you upload an EPUB to generate a custom lecture, we store the file and its derived materials inside your private workspace.
- Voice input. When you use voice features, audio is sent to our speech-recognition provider for transcription and is not retained beyond what is needed to process your request.
- Technical data. Standard server logs (IP, user-agent, timestamps) used for security and debugging.
2. How we use information
- To provide, secure, and improve Boki — including syncing your reading progress between devices and personalizing recommendations.
- To generate AI lectures and answer your questions through third-party LLM, TTS, and ASR providers acting as data processors on our behalf.
- To prevent abuse, fraud, and to comply with legal obligations.
3. Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with infrastructure and AI providers needed to run the service (e.g. cloud hosting, LLM APIs, TTS / ASR vendors), and only to the extent necessary. We may disclose information when required by law.
4. Data retention
We keep your account data for as long as your account is active. You can request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by emailing support@myboki.com.
5. Your rights
You can access, export, or delete the data tied to your account by contacting us. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as GDPR or CCPA — we will honor valid requests.
6. Cookies and local storage
Boki uses local storage and cookies strictly for session management (auth tokens) and remembering your language preference. We do not use third-party advertising or tracking cookies.
7. Children
Boki is not directed at children under 13. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will remove it.
8. Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be announced inside the app or via email.
